A while back I made a blanket-and-hat set for Mr. Baby. Mr. Baby is now two years old, and expecting a visit from his soon-to-be little sister any day now, so I made this little set in honor of her arrival. The hat is based on Ann Norling’s Fruit Hat pattern; the booties socks are Dilys Sutherland’s Super Quick Baby Socks pattern. The colors of this yarn are really perfect; very true-to-life eggplant (although it’s not as easy to see in this photo).
These were my first-ever baby booties socks, and the hat was great fun to do (and notably better than my first baby hat).

Would you mind sharing your pattern? I would be willing to buy it. I have seen the eggplant hat and have tried one but looks nothing like yours.

I used Ann Norling’s Fruit Hat pattern. I do recall fudging a couple things with this hat but the changes were very minor and the basic look of the hat is the same. You can purchase a copy of her pattern from your local yarn shop or on-line (just Google for ann norling fruit hat pattern and you’ll get a bunch of links).
I think your choice in yarns can make a huge difference. I was very lucky to find such great colors, and the cashmerino aran is both wonderful to knit with and soft for baby’s head. It’s more expensive than straight acrylic (and I am a fan of acrylic for its easy care) but the final result was worth it, IMHO.
