Here we are with another edition of the cross-country flight blog. Yay!
Last seen in 2003 (and disabled due to a nasty spam attack), the travelblog is re-born as Ted and I make our way across the country to his home town, beautiful Elmira, NY, under the pretext of attending his 20th High School Reunion. Happily, we’ll be stopping along the way and enjoying the company of dear friends and family.
And you can read all about it right here!
The Victoria & Albert Museum in London has a very famous fashion department and their website is very fun to look through. They have a very cool knitting section that includes info on regional knitting from Ireland and the British Isles, vintage knitting patterns (40s & 50s — wartime and just after), and contemporary free patterns, including a sweater pattern from Rowan.
From the KnitU list:
How often do you see a serious gallery show of knitting as an art form? If you find yourself in or near Washington, DC this summer, you might want to check out a show titled “Not The Knitting You Know: Sculptural Knitting and Crochet.” It’s at the Eleven Eleven Sculpture Space, downtown on Pennsylvania Ave. The items are about half knitted and half crocheted. I was fascinated by Blanka Sperkova’s work — wire knitting like nothing you’ve seen before.
There are lots of odd and interesting knitting blogs out there, but here are two of my most recent favorites:
Knitted Wings
This woman is amazingly prolific. I mean, scarily so. Just page through some of her previous weeks and you’ll see what I’m talking about. A truly inspirational and interesting mix of intricate and beautiful projects.
Crazy Aunt Purl
First introduced to Laurie via her SnB posts–she’s funny and self-effacing and has a wonderful writing voice. The knitting is fun, but this really is more about the story she tells.
She also likes to take many pictures and has a separate travel blog – packed with fun photos and commentary of her past trips to interesting places
You know you want one. Everyone needs one. It’s… Viking Chicken Hat!
