January 2005

Drop-stitch scarf
Completed: January, 2006
Lion Brand Yarn / Incredible
100% nylon
Needles: US 15

This series of scarves began when I discovered this Incredible ribbon yarn on deep discount at Michaels one week. I’d been wanting to try both a drop-stitch pattern as well as a ribbon yarn, just to see what they’re like. We started with a simple scarf.

Drop-stitch close-upFor those of you who don’t know, drop stitching is a technique that involves wrapping the yarn around the needle, then intentionally dropping the stitches on the subsequent row such that the stitches are twice (or more) times the height of a normal knit stitch.

Cowl, frontI really like the way this ribbon yarn looked, and liked the colorways of the yarn I was using, and because you’re basically knitting only every other row, the scarves knit up quickly. So I tried a little shaping to make it a little more interesting. This triangular-shaped cowl came out so well I decided to give one as a farewell gift and made another for myself!

Let’s begin 2005 with something fun and frivolous… Felieke van der Leest is a Dutch artist who creates these amazing little objets d’art. I SO want to make a glove garden…
